You’re Ready Now! — Take the 21/31 Challenge
By Andrea Jarrell
Welcome to Fuel for Thought, PureFire’s space for stories, reflections, and ideas that inspire us both on and off the mat. In this month’s blog post, PureFire Yoga teacher and author Andrea Jarrell reflects on the meaning behind the phrase “You’re Ready Now” and invites us to discover how to put that idea into practice with the 21/31 October Challenge!
If you’ve taken Pure Fire co-founder Marcus Lee’s classes you’ve probably heard him say, “You’re ready now.”
He usually says it right before a pose where I hesitate, unsure if I’m going to wobble out, a pose I know I’m going to be called on to sustain. I always feel encouraged, but what does he mean exactly? Ready for what?
Implicit is the idea of hovering at an internal threshold. He’s inviting us to leap whether we feel ready or not.
Because as he says, “I’ve never felt ready for the things that have impacted me in a positive way.” He describes key milestones in his life — excelling in a coveted wide receiver spot on the Division 1 Towson University football team, co-founding PureFire Yoga, becoming a parent. “So, to me you’re ready now means you have enough right now to take the next step,” he says.
Reflecting on his yoga teacher training with Baron Baptiste, Marcus says, “Baron would say, ‘Stop waiting for the future version of yourself before you participate in your life.’”
Every time we step on our mats, we stop waiting and start participating. We let go of perfect. We breathe. We flow. We start to notice shifts in our bodies, our strength, our resilience, and our ability to trust our own readiness on and off the mat.
PureFire’s 21-in-31 October Challenge invites you to trust that you are ready now. Ready to grow, to connect with yourself and to others. Ready to build a consistent, sustainable practice within an encouraging community, and have fun while you do it. The board is up. Why wait?
